Spencer Malley is a Pastoral Musician, Music Educator and composer currently living and serving the people of God in Southeast Michigan. Born and raised in Bristol, CT, Spencer has always had a love for making music with the people of God. He began accompanying Masses in his home parish of Saint Matthew in Forestville, CT when he was just 12 years old, and was an active member of the parish choir since the age of 10. His mentor, teacher and dear friend Sally Kish instilled in him at a young age what the heart and soul of being a pastoral musician is, and he has never forgotten that.
Spencer has served as Director of Music Ministries in several parishes, including Saint Luke and Saint Augustine parishes in Hartford, CT, and Saint Matthew Parish in Forestville, CT. He also has served as a youth minister and confirmation catechist at Christ the King Parish in Wethersfield, CT. Currently, he serves as the Director of Music Ministries and as the K-8 Music teacher at Saint Joseph Parish in Howell, MI.
In his current role, Spencer directs the parish handbell choir, two adult-aged parish choirs which serve at both the English and Spanish liturgies, and a Children's choir which provides music for the weekly school masses, as well as for Christmas and Easter. In addition to his parish ministry, Spencer also serves as the Chapter Director of the Lansing Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
With a deep passion for culturally diversity, Spencer has worked tirelessly to learn and implement best practices for bringing the different ethnic communities within the parishes he's served together for multicultural liturgical celebrations.
Working to form cantors is something that holds a special place in his heart, and he hopes to be able to share his love for this particular aspect of music ministry far beyond the boundaries of Southeast Michigan.
Spencer loves to speak on what it is to be a pastoral musician, and the role of pastoral musicians within the Church. Interested in getting in touch? Click "contact" on the top of the page, or fill out the form to the left.
